Headless Soccer Player Costume

My 7 year old decided that he wanted to "make" his costume for Halloween this year. This is a child who has been Spider man for the past 4 years. This is his first year being something really scary and he wanted to go all out! So, being the crafty mom I am, I thought, GREAT! this is going to be fun!

We started this project about a week ago.

Headless Soccer Player.

It was a little more involved than we initially thought. You see he is wearing a backpack with tall tubes attached and lots of padding. We tried so many combinations of materials to get it right. I think it is the tubing with t-shirt like rags wrapped around to make it appear larger & cardboard to shape it.

We must have made him put it on & take it off about 50 times to get it the right "height".

Balled up newspaper in the sleeves and gloves, gloves pinned to shirt. We are working on a solution for his real arms....if he lets them hang down, they will show. I am not sure what will be comfortable for him to "hold" his arms up under the shirt.

There is one other small problem - we need to make a neck. AND we need to fix it on there somehow with lots of "blood". We'll post an updated pic when it is 100% complete. HERE is the UPDATE!

How many more days till Halloween???
